A program by the U.S. Treasury Dept. aims to provide $29 billion to state and local housing finance agencies over the next year.  Housing finance agencies provide loans to low- and moderate-income borrowers and have faced challenges in recent months as investors have been reluctant to purchase their debt.

Home sales increased 12 percent in July in California compared with the same period a year ago, while the median price of an existing home declined 19.6 percent, C.A.R. reported yesterday.

Q1 entry-level housing affordability reached 69 percent

The percentage of households that could afford to buy an entry-level home in California stood at 69 percent in the first quarter of 2009, compared with 46 percent (revised) for the same period a year ago, according to a C.A.R. report released last week.

Treasury Dept. is giving “cash-for-keys”

Under the Foreclosure Alternative Program (FAP) announced last week by the Obama Administration, some borrowers may be eligible for the U.S. Treasury Dept.’s deed-in-lieu program, also referred to as “cash for keys.”
